Adapting services so we continue to support people affected by cancer during the Covid-19 pandemic

In West Lancashire, we quickly put plans in place to ensure no cancer patient or their family us having to cope by themselves.

We adapted the Macmillan Information and Support Service in West Lancashire to ensure patients with cancer and their families could still feel connected to and reassured by us during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Contacted people on our caseload to make sure they knew what was happening and adapted our support services

We worked in conjunction with the Council and Citizens Advice to get people the day-to-day support they were entitled to

Offered a number of virtual sessions on building resilience, chair-based exercises, relaxation and promoting good mental health

Over three months, we had almost 1,000 remote contacts with our service users and sent them sunflower seeds to show we were thinking of them

About our West Lancashire Adult Community and Urgent Care Services

The NHS in West Lancashire was seeking a partner to build an integrated, resilient, and sustainable adult community services and unscheduled care service for the district.

They needed to bring care closer to home for people across the area, reduce avoidable hospital admissions and achieve collective accountability across the system.

Appointed in 2017, we have been recognised as a visionary, driving influence in improving outcomes for people of West Lancashire, working together with our communities as our champions and patients, partners in their own care.
