Support for people feeling isolated

During lockdown, fantastic partnership working and more than 3,000 volunteers from the community provided thousands of people across Essex with all sorts of advice and practical help.

At the start of the COVID-19 lockdown, we and Barnardo’s joined forces with other health and social care providers to form the Essex Wellbeing Hub virtual call centre – set up to support the most vulnerable and at-risk people across the county.

Experienced colleagues worked in a voluntary capacity to give callers advice, support and reassurance

Help was provided on anything, from finding a volunteer to deliver groceries or medication to organising mental health support

IT professionals set up systems to help call handlers carry out their responsibilities effectively

By July 2020 the Wellbeing Hub had handled more than 56,000 inbound and outbound calls and is now an ongoing service with colleagues continuing to be involved

About the Essex Child and Family Wellbeing contract

We work in partnership with Barnardo’s to deliver 0-19 services to communities in Essex, bringing together family hubs, school nursing, and health visiting and to ‘level up’ communities with a focus on health and social inequality.

Families have easy access to free, high quality, public health services in their community, schools, family home, and our family hubs, from which we reach out to local community settings and delivery sites.

Across the county our committed and dedicated professionals, including health visitors, school nurses and healthy family support workers work together to provide a wide range of services – and in West Essex, our nurses, paediatricians and therapists provide specialist services to the community.

The services we provide aim to make sure that all families are supported, from before children are born up until the age of 19, or 25 for those with special educational needs.

Our focus is on making sure that everyone in Essex has the best possible start in life through meeting identified needs and developing care plans that ensure care is delivered by the most appropriate person at the right time.
