by Communications Team on 31st August 2023

HCRG Care Group is celebrating after being shortlisted for the Well-being and Employee Engagement Award in the CIPP’s Annual Excellence Awards 2023.

The organisation has been recognised for its innovative approach to providing a comprehensive support package for colleagues navigating the menopause, reflecting its commitment to keeping its workforce happy and healthy.

Over half of the HCRG Care Group workforce comprises females in the age bracket likely to be experiencing menopausal symptoms. During an employee engagement event in 2022, the topic of menopause was raised by colleagues who sought greater internal recognition of this significant issue. A dedicated project was initiated to provide a comprehensive support package tailored specifically for menopausal colleagues. Recognising the distinctive challenges and requirements faced by individuals, the project aimed to develop resources and initiatives that effectively addressed concerns.

Over the past year, the organisation has achieved the following:

  • Invested £10,000 from its Innovation Fund to facilitate free access to Hormonal Replacement Therapy (HRT) prescriptions for colleagues as part of a successful pilot initiative, which has now become a standard practice.
  • Introduced quarterly menopause cafes, providing a safe and open environment for staff to discuss the topic of menopause, and offering an opportunity for other colleagues to enhance their understanding of supporting peers in the workplace.
  • Created a comprehensive policy guide for colleagues and their managers, encompassing information about menopause, its physical and psychological symptoms, available treatments including HRT and natural remedies, lifestyle recommendations, and external support resources such as TV documentaries, podcasts, and websites.

Paul Lundbeck, Director of People Services, expressed his delight: “We are pleased to have received further recognition for our efforts in supporting colleagues through the menopausal transition and in raising awareness about menopause-related issues throughout our organisation. Our ongoing commitment to allow our colleagues to bring their best selves to work and to spotlight our organisation as an exceptional workplace.”
