HCRG Care Group shortlisted for national wellbeing award

HCRG Care Group is celebrating after being shortlisted for a Wellbeing and Employee Engagement Award from the Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals (CIPP).

As a healthcare provider, the organisation has always understood the impact on engagement and retention of maintaining a happy, healthy workforce and offered a range of support to promote the wellbeing of its colleagues.

However, the COVID-19 pandemic brought sudden challenges and pressures, increasing the risk of physical, financial and mental health issues for colleagues. Swift action was taken to enhance the wellbeing offer, including support for those who may have been affected by family members being furloughed or made redundant, and who are now also dealing with the increased cost of living.

Paul Lundbeck, Director of People Services said, “We’re incredibly proud of our team and it’s a real honour to be recognised for work we’re doing to support colleagues at this challenging time. It was vital for Wellbeing Strategy that we took our payroll and wellbeing support to the next level, making it more accurate and accessible than ever to our colleagues.

“The aim of our Wellbeing Strategy is to support colleagues in being as healthy and happy as possible so that they can bring their best selves to work. It is also important that we take the wellbeing of our colleagues seriously, so they remain with and become ambassadors for our organisation as a great place to work.”

Over the last 18 months the organisation has:

  • Improved financial awareness and resilience by implementing Wagestream, which provides colleagues with financial education, saving and when needed, instant access to their earnings.
  • Created a single point of access, known as the Wellness Centre, that allowed colleagues and their managers, to easily find the help they needed.
Run seasonal campaigns throughout 2021/2022 to show colleagues how much they are valued.
  • Automated payment of additional hours via its roster system – meaning colleagues no longer needed to submit separate timesheets, removing processing of 25,000 manual timesheets, and ensuring no timesheets missed approval cut-off.
  • Introduced Interactive and Advance Payslips to reduce mental and financial worries caused by incorrect pay. Payslips were updated so colleagues could ‘drill down’ beyond the headline number of hours being paid to see which dates and shifts have been paid and made payslips available two weeks before payday so any issues could be rectified in advance.

The winners of this year’s awards will be announced at the CIPP’s Annual Excellence Awards on Thursday 6 October.
