HCRG Care Group shortlisted for Best Social Responsibility Programme Award

by Communications Team on 15th August 2023

HCRG Care Group is celebrating after being shortlisted for the Best Social Responsibility Programme Award in the Nursing Times Workforce Awards 2023.

In North Kent, the organisation’s social value programme focuses on supporting residents in gaining work experience and local jobs, giving extra support to the organisation’s most vulnerable patients, and improving the quality of life for those in hardship. Many colleagues live locally and are passionate about their community and HCRG Care Group is empowering them to volunteer and give their time and efforts to the community.

Some of our projects include:

  • Providing work placement and engagement opportunities for the next generation of health and care professionals. In partnership with local schools and colleges, we are supporting their education and providing a bridge into employment.
  • Supporting young people in local academies with career advice, and support with mock interviews and CV writing for both clinical and non-clinical roles.
  • Introducing a scheme where every colleague working in our North Kent services can have a paid day off a year to work for a local voluntary organisation.
  • Launching the redevelopment of the garden outside Harty Ward at Sheppey Community Hospital.
  • Committing to providing placements for the Nursing cadets in support of the RCN Nursing Cadet Programme with the first cohort completed in June this year.
  • Making sure all hospital restaurants buy local products
  • Providing subsidised, nutritional meals at Sheppey Community Hospital, from September 2023.
  • Investing around £3000 to purchase over 100 thermal blankets for some of the most vulnerable service users and over 100 new toys for children.

Pat Birchall, Chief Operating Officer at HCRG Care Group, said: “We work very closely with our community partners across North Kent and are committed to making a positive difference for people living in the area. It is great to receive this recognition for some of the projects that we have already got off the ground in the area and I look forward to hearing the results later this year.”

The winners of this year’s awards will be announced at the Nursing Times Workforce Awards on Tuesday 21 November.
