A support package for colleagues affected by baby loss and infertility has been shortlisted in the Best Staff Wellbeing Initiative category of this year’s Nursing Times Workforce and Summit Awards.

HCRG Care Group introduced the comprehensive toolkit and enhanced support as part of its Family Friendly Policy.

A baby loss and infertility working party was set up to give colleagues the opportunity to come together to share their personal experiences and discuss how the organisation could best support those affected.

This resulted in the introduction of a toolkit including manager guidance and FAQs regarding infertility, baby loss, fostering and adoption and surrogacy; and an enhanced policy offering which includes:

  • Paid time off for colleagues to attend medical appointments relating to their fertility journey
  • Paid time off extended to partners including same sex partners, intended parents and colleagues who have a surrogate or co-parent
  • Five days paid leave per IVF cycle (maximum of three cycles)
  • Four weeks paid parental bereavement leave
  • Paid ‘Days to Remember’ for anniversaries, birthdays, or any special day following baby loss.
  • 10 days paid leave per year for foster carers for settling in a child, training courses, support groups, meetings, or emergencies.

Paul Lundbeck, People Director, said: “We are really pleased to be shortlisted for this award. We’re here to support colleagues every step of the way, during all stages of life in order, to promote a healthy and happy workforce and encourage individuals to join and stay with the organisation.”
