CQC recognises compassionate and effective children’s services in Lancashire with a ‘good’ rating

by Communications Team on 31st January 2023

Lancashire Healthy Young People and Families Service has been rated ‘good’ by the Care Quality Commission in its first inspection since launching in 2019.

The children’s 0-19s service, run by HCRG Care Group on behalf of Lancashire County Council, provides health visiting, school nursing and transitional support for special educational needs and disabilities for those up to the age of 25. It also offers specialist infant feeding advice and mental health support to new mums across the Lancashire footprint.

The thorough inspection included visits to two sites, interviews with managers, staff and service users, observations and an assessment of treatment records and policies and procedures.

In particular, the report highlighted the compassion and kindness of staff and the service’s ability to meet the needs of the local community. It also recognised the innovative approach taken in training volunteer parents to deliver a parenting course in the local community, and the high level of training given to health visitors which enables them to provide intensive individualised programmes of support to families with more complex needs.

The majority of CQC-inspected services run by HCRG Care Group are rated good or outstanding.

Michelle Lee, Regional Director for HCRG Care Group said: “We’re pleased that the CQC has recognised the quality of our service, particularly the compassion and kindness of our staff and their commitment to meeting the needs of service users.

“We know from experience that families want a joined-up, easy-to-access service that meets their specific needs, and we’re proud to work with local communities on the design and development of our services. It’s important to us that we continually improve services and we have been working hard to ensure staff caseloads are manageable and allow them to meet all required timescales.

Dr Alison Moore, Public Health Specialist at Lancashire County Council said ”We are delighted to receive the report that our provider HCRG Care Group are providing good care for our children and their families. The service is a vital part of the system to enable children to have the best start in life and stay safe and well. It is great reassurance for us as Commissioner to have CQC carry out the inspection objectively, and award the ‘Good’ rating.
